A biodegradable approach to traditional plastics
It’s estimated that 9 million tons of furniture are thrown into the landfill every year in the United States. What if we could reframe our view of permanent objects and instead, think of design in a temporary sense. Immaterial Objects aims to address this concern through a 100% biodegradable approach to traditional plastics. This exhibit showcases the flexibility of bioplastic materials through applications in lighting fixtures, tables, modular room dividers and small functional objects. With bioplastics the beauty of design can be maintained while using cleaner materials that don’t end up in the landfill.

Versatile enough to serve a variety of design needs, bioplastic can be used for large scale furniture pieces such as tables for an event or can provide compact accents to any small space
Constructed from modular sets, each piece fits together without the need for adhesive or additional supports, allowing the entire structure to biodegrade after use
